Scope

The Multidisciplinary Advances in Research, Innovation, and Academic Nurturing (MARIAN) Journal publishes original research papers, reviews, and scholarly works that contribute to sustainable development, innovation, community transformation, and global advancement in alignment with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The journal welcomes multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary studies related to, but not limited to, the following areas:

SDG 1 – No Poverty

Poverty alleviation programs, livelihood development, social protection, community empowerment, and inclusive economic initiatives

SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

Food security, agriculture, nutrition, sustainable farming systems, and community-based food programs

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being

Community health, nursing, pharmaceutical sciences, mental health, public health initiatives, wellness promotion, and healthcare innovation

SDG 4 – Quality Education

Innovative teaching strategies, curriculum development, educational leadership, lifelong learning, inclusive education, educational technologies, and outcomes-based education

SDG 5 – Gender Equality

Gender studies, women empowerment, inclusivity, gender-responsive programs, equity, and social protection

SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation

Water resource management, sanitation systems, environmental health, and sustainable water solutions

SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy

Renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable technologies, and alternative energy innovations

Entrepreneurship, sustainable business practices, financial literacy, tourism development, workforce innovation, labor studies, and economic sustainability

Marine biodiversity, aquatic ecosystems, fisheries management, and water ecosystem conservation

Biodiversity conservation, forestry, wildlife protection, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable land management

SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Governance, ethics, criminology, policy studies, legal frameworks, public administration, leadership, and social justice

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Collaborative research, internationalization, extension programs, community engagement, and multi-sectoral partnerships for sustainable development

The journal also encourages emerging and innovative research areas that advance scientific knowledge, technological innovation, cultural preservation, ethical stewardship, and societal transformation.

Ethical Guidelines

The MARIAN Journal upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical research. All submissions must comply with the following:

Ethical Clearance
All research involving human participants must obtain prior approval from the SMU Research Ethics Committee (REC) or an equivalent recognized body. Proof of ethical clearance must be available upon request.

Authorship and Contributions
Authorship is limited to individuals who have made significant intellectual contributions to the study, including its conception, data collection, analysis, or manuscript preparation. All authors must approve the final manuscript prior to submission.

Originality and Dual Submission
Submissions must be original and unpublished works. Manuscripts must not be under consideration by any other journal at the time of submission.

Data Integrity
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and reliability of their data. Raw data must be preserved and made available upon request for verification purposes.

Confidentiality
The peer-review process is strictly confidential. Editors and reviewers must not disclose or use unpublished materials for personal or professional advantage.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure
All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may influence the research or evaluation process.

Academic Honesty
The journal enforces a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, data fabrication, and falsification. All submissions undergo similarity checking. Violations will result in rejection or retraction.


Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

In line with global standards in scholarly publishing, the MARIAN Journal allows the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools under the following conditions:

Human Authorship Only
AI tools cannot be credited as authors or co-authors. Full responsibility for the manuscript rests with the human authors.

Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must clearly disclose the use of AI tools in the Methodology section or Acknowledgments, specifying the tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude) and its purpose (e.g., language editing, data analysis, literature synthesis).

Content Authenticity
AI must not be used to generate original research findings, interpretations, or conclusions. Authors are responsible for verifying all AI-assisted outputs, including references.

Ethical Use of AI
The use of AI for generating misleading content, falsifying data, or bypassing critical thinking constitutes academic misconduct and will be treated in the same manner as plagiarism.
